Remembering David Berman

By Niall Fitzgerald

One of the greatest lyricists of the epoch is gone. David Berman, heartbeat of the Silver Jews and Purple Mountains, has shuffled out of this mortal coil. In his wake he leaves hope; in the mundane , in the grandiose, in the dimly lit highways and overpasses of our collective lives. He leaves behind honesty, sometimes brutal, but honesty nonetheless. He has become a close friend for those who listen to him, a voice to unearth during times of confusion, of love, of basically anything. His words have lent us something; they'll be there in our times of need. They'll live on.
RIP David Berman
